Ageing is typically understood as the process of growing old or showing signs of ageing. It is often driven by a decline in hormones and an accumulation of changes in cells which can affect various aspects of health and wellbeing.
Ageing is divided into two key aspects: chronological age and biological age.
- Biological Age: This refers to how well an individual’s body systems — ranging from mental function to sexual performance to physical strength — are performing compared to peers of the same age. It is influenced by lifestyle factors, genetics, and overall health status, and is an indicator of overall health and vitality.
- Chronological Age: The number of years since birth, marked annually by one’s birthday.
