When coming in for a health screening at Icon, it’s important to prepare by following the advice outlined below. This will ensure all test results are accurate and your screening experience is as pleasant as possible.
Preparing for your health screen
A number of tests require you to fast.
These tests are:
- Fasting blood sugar
- Cholesterol blood test
- Ultrasound of the liver
- Ultrasound of the abdomen
If you are undergoing one of these tests as part of your screening package, please cease all consumption of food and beverages from 10pm the night before your health screening. If your appointment is in the afternoon, please fast 8 hours before your appointment. No food or beverages are allowed during the fasting period, only plain water. We will provide you with a light refreshment after your assessment to ensure you leave replenished.
For any tests that require a sample
Specimen bottles will be provided on arrival. A stool sample is to be provided to the clinic within 24 hours of collecting the specimen in the bottle provided. If you require a urine sample, we will provide you with a sample bottle on the day of your appointment.
If you have specific dietary requirements
Please call us before your health screening appointment (eg: halal, vegetarian).
If you are taking any doctor prescribed medication
Please continue to do so. For diabetics, please do not consume your morning tablets but bring your medication so you can take it after your blood test is completed. Please ensure you talk to our doctor if you need any further clarification on your current medications.
For a women’s health screening package
Your pap smear, urine and stool samples should only be undertaken five days after the last day of menstruation. Please ensure you work with our team to schedule an appointment in line with this.
If you are having your vision tested
Please do not wear contact lenses on the day of your screening appointment. If you have glasses, please bring them with you to your vision test.
We encourage patients to be on time for your health screening appointment. This helps us reduce wait times and ensure patients are seen in a timely manner. Should you miss your scheduled appointment time, there may be an extended waiting time. Please contact the clinic if you are running late for your appointment or need to reschedule.
What to bring
Please bring the following along to your appointment:
- Identification card or passport
- Staff identification card or letter (for corporate clients)
- Previous medical records including x-rays, ultrasounds, any previous health screenings (e.g. mammograms)
